July 12, 2014 The tide is way out!

One of Mike's customers from Seattle Boat owns a little cabin on the Des Moines shoreline.  He did some fixes for them and they were so appreciative that they invited our family to their cabin for the day.  Tide was at a -3 which is really low.
When we first got there, we had to walk down about 100 steps to the beach.  We weren't sure which was their property.  We asked another homeowner and she pointed us in the right direction.
They had a cat named Max that Decker fell in love with.  Decker accidentlally stepped on his tail during our visit and he said that he hissed at Decker.  After that, Max hid away...and Decker said, he felt bad because he didn't get to say "sorry" to Max.
Mike put a crab on Decker's head.  It freaked him out!!!  Mike said he wouldn't do that again.
Here's one of the larger crabs that we found and a beautiful red color.

This perfectly grey --looks like half a toilet seat is made by a Moon Shell
We found a couple of cool starfishes.  This one was missing a leg--only 4.
Here's another 5 armed starfish.  So cool.  When you touch them, they feel like sandpaper.

Here's another of those half toilet seats made out of sand!  Amazing!
Anemones--we kept saying it like Nemo.  They don't look like much, but so cool when the tide came back in and covered them up and all their colorful tentacles came out.
Lots of Seaweed!  Cody didn't like the feel of it swirling around his feet and wanted to be carried out of the water.
Here, Decker is telling me he loves me "5" !

When we first got there, I went out onto the beach and picked up a shell, when much to my surprise a couple of crabs ran out.  It made me think of scary spiders...I let out a scream.  Then our host, Julie, told us to pick up the rocks.  I had no idea there were so many crabs.  The boys spent much of their time picking up rocks to see what was under them.  Crabs squiggling off to the left and right, anywhere there was shade.  Very entertaining.

Here's a buoy that was attached to an elastic rope attached to a heavy anchor.  The boys liked pulling it tight and then letting it go as it launched back towards the ocean.
Here's a jellyfish we found.  We found a dark red one, but didn't have the camera and couldn't find it again when we got the camera.
This little crab liked hanging out in this little shell.
Mike's teaching Decker how to tell a male crab from a female crab...Who'da guess that he would know the difference.  :)

Then, Mike got into the fun of turning rocks over-- and he did huge rocks....where we found starfishes and worms and more.  So cool!
We're all holding starfishes which Decker named them, Decker, Cody, Mike and Julie.  Funny boy!

This is Julie, building a mountain with Cody.  They then found shells to decorate the moat with and a dead crab as a flag.

Mike is collecting specimens in his bucket.
So here's the anemone that he put in his bucket.  Doesn't look like much, but when you put them underwater, all their tentacles come out.  So pretty.

The boys had some stairs that led up to the beach house from the beach.  Decker came up the stairs to me and wanted me to hold him.  I noticed that he was hurting, and asked him where he hurt.  His poor owies on his knees were so fresh that the salt water was stinging them.  We quickly poured some tap water on them to rinse them off.  It made him feel better.

Such a cute place and what a wonderful day!  We had a blast!!  Didn't take long for the boys to fall asleep in the car going home.  :)
Great big "thanks" goes out to Julie and her parents!  What a wonderful day!
